Training-for-speed.com is a guide for one thing: running fast. Really fast.
Running is the supreme foundation of athletics.
If you stop to think about it, sprinting is a marvel of biological mechanics. It is the perfect combination of balance and strength that no other animal can accomplish quite like a human. Most sprinters have a moment during each season when they think, “Wow, this is wonderful.”
They feel a rush. The scene around them whizzes by. Their muscles contract with such force that they feel both rooted and weightless at the same time. The wind caused by their own effort cools their moist skin.
For the more competitive athletes, pulling ahead at the last moments of a race to edge out an opponent is a high unlike any other.
The good news is that every person is capable of this. I can't promise that you will soon become an Olympic gold medalist in the 100 meter dash.
However, I can confidently say that with the proper nutrition and training, anyone can get faster. Whether you're a kid who wants to play tag with the best of them, a football player who wants to clock a faster 40 yard dash, or a 400m runner that needs a quicker turnover, it's possible.
You can increase your sprinting speed.
I'll say it again. You can increase your sprinting speed.
The good news, too, is that it's really not all that hard.
Here is my advice for increasing your running speed:
- Get in shape
- Get flexible
- Develop the major and minor muscle groups in the legs for strength
- Learn the proper form and technique
- Do the drills! That is, implement what you've learned.
- Eat right and drink enough water
- Prevent injuries!
It might look like a lot now, but most of it is very easy. You already know much of this information. But most athletes fail to recognize the importance of this knowledge and thus fail to put it into action.
The concept is simple, but most people screw it up.
Even more important is doing all of these – and doing them correctly. I'll make it all very straightforward. From stretching to lifting to eating, you'll learn it all – quickly. Don't waste another day of training.
Be competitive and race to win.
